On the health care issue, surely the answer is to use HK's system? As a permanent resident (I hope you've kept that going with visits at least every 36 months) you have no problem getting access. So it's only an issue if you're too sick to take a plane over.
But that's one of the things - if I'm too sick to travel. Or if it's not quite so serious, having to pay for an airplane, having to pay for a place to stay ... it's an option but maybe not entirely viable depending on the circumstances.
