Steve! I'm quite pleased to read that you're not dead! I am one of those who wondered. 😶

It's pretty impressive that you'd gone this far without surgery. I hope it wasn't a net negative experience. (How was the bedside manner? I remember Hong Kongers to be brusque.)

Your opening paragraph resonates with me very much. I can't believe it's now over twelve years ago, but there used to be a handful of personal blogs I used to read and faithfully follow. A retired nurse who started raising chickens in Cape Cod. A vicar's wife and stay-at-home mum in Wales. A couple from friends. A Filipina influencer who has a gift for fashion and photography. They've mostly since buckled onto Instagram where one admits "micro-blogging" is easier, and the vicar's wife has now monetised into a toxic-free, simple-living, essential-oil brand.

I just finished reading "A Room of One's Own" by Virginia Woolf, and let me tell you—it certainly encourages me to keep my blog, despite the inactivity. I suppose life and its decades will have its seasons.

I'm glad you're still here.

Bedside manner varied by individual, just as it would pretty much anywhere else in the world. In terms of Hong Kongers being this or that, I think of the old saying, “wherever you go, there you are,” or something like that. People are nice to me because I’m nice to them. Mostly!

Thanks for sharing my exact thoughts, and probably that of most bloggers of our pre-substack vintage.

The choreography in Storm during the school-photo shoot is just astounding/outstanding. Also, I'm gGoing to have to watch some old Malcolm McDowell movies to get that groove back for the "If"-like bits and some of the old ultra-violence..
